The
SIS Robotics Team is hard at work on a number of projects.
The
first one is "HammerHead", an Electro-Optical Stereo Camera
System that was designed by SIS and NASA Jet Propulsion
Laboratory
(JPL) and is now being tested in heavy seas
aboard
an Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV). Scott Corey is
the
Lead for this one with assistance from Stephen,
Tim
and Corey. The goal is to give the Navy a full test
of
the technology for possible use on future Navy USVs.
The
second major project is "SwampHammer", which is
a
follow-on to "HammerHead". This system is an
Electro-Optical
/ Infra-Red Stereo Camera System that
was
also designed in combination between SIS and JPL.
This
system is just starting to be tested on an USV and the
goal
is to determine growth in capability over "HammerHead",
night
time capability using Infra-Red, and determining that
capability
of the system to determine the current weather
and
make adjustments to which sensors are more heavily
used
because of that weather. In other words, if the vessel
were
in a snow storm then the Infra-Red might be more
capable
of looking through it than the Electro-Optical.
The Lead for this project is Stephen Bald with assistance
from
Tim, Scott and Corey.
Looking
to the future of 2015, expect to see an even
bigger
Swarm II Demonstration than what SIS led last summer!
Happy
New Year!
